Welcome to Unit Two - Working with Clay
In this unit you will learn more about the properties, preparation and tools of clay.
Unit Two text reading – pages 22 to 43
Different types of clay have unique qualities that make them suitable for different uses. You might use one clay for a sculptural work and another to make fine teacups. Clay is a material that constantly challenges the artist. The better you know the clay, the more successful your work.
We have discussed many if not all of this information in class. Please read this chapter carefully so that you may answer the following review questions on our discussion page. Your response to review questions one (1) and two (2) will be due on Friday, April 1, 2011. Review question # three (3) will be due in class on Friday, April 1, 2011.
This review (questions one and two) will be worth 25 quiz points!

Unit Review Questions:
1- List four (4) properties that you must learn about any type of clay you work with.
2 - Explain why potters use additives such as grog when building large ceramic pieces.
* Review question three (3) will be due in class on Friday April 1, 2011. Please print out hard copy of question and answer to be turned in at end of class period.
3- Select one ceramic artwork from this chapter. Write a description of the work based on its sensory, formal, expressive and technical qualities. Describe as many qualities as possible. Be prepared to discuss your analysis with the class, (print a hard copy of your description).
This will be due, in class, Friday April 1, 2011.
